Rosa the Giant Anteater is also an orphan and another endangered species. Another younger anteater also lives at the Orphanage. They were brought in by one of our students. Rosa had been living in captivity. The student was concerned that the animal was not getting sufficient care. She will grow to 6-8 feet long and weigh about 70 pounds.

Chavo and Lora.Chavo (with Lora) is a red-faced Uacary, an endangered species that exists only in the flooded Amazon region. When he arrived at the Orphanage, he was skin and bones and had a broken foot due to a fall suffered when his mother was killed. Chavo has recovered well, and is now "King" of the Orphanage.

Zecke.Zeke (right) and Florian (right column) are black Huacary monkeys that were give to the Orphanage - one by a neighbor, the other by a veternarian. Zecke, the female, was dehydrated and had a severe infection. Florian weighed only 230 grams and was equally ill.
Lolita.Lolita's mother was killed and the people who killed the mother tried raising the tapir baby. To keep her from escaping, they tied her feet with nylon fishing line, which cut into her feet and legs. The owners brought Lolita the tapir to the Orphanage for raising.

Pedro Bello. Pedro Bello, the exquisite Jaguar featured on the Home Page and on the right, was offered to the Animal Orphanage by a man who was trying to sell him.

Pedro's Story

We are concerned about Flora and Fauna in general and, as a result, have been caring for animals rescued by us, or by others and given to us in the Amazonian jungles of Peru.

One of our goals had been to become an Official Center of Rescue for endanered animals; we received official sanction in summer of 2004, but the official recognition does not include funding.

We are in serious need of funding to help support the animals, particularly Pedro Bello.

And, please, do not take wild animals into your home with the expectation of turning them into pets. It often turns into a heart-breaking situation for all concerned.
